I just accepted a new job! When to hand notice in to current company?

Hi all,

I got offered a job last week via a recruitment consultant - all good, have emailed my acceptance and they are sending over the contract etc next week. I've not had anything in writing from the employer but I have from the consultant.

I want to hand in my notice as I have a long notice period (3 months) and I really dislike my current job, but should I wait for the contract first? I don't know whether I'm being overly cautious but I worry that I don't have any correspondence from the new company as yet.

Thanks in advance Smile

Yes, wait for the contract. You need to read it and make sure you're happy with it all before you confirm.

Go back to the agent and ask when you can expect the contact as you are keen to hand in your notice and confirm a start date as you're so excited.

Push the consultant to get your contract to you ASAP. It's win win for them - they get their fee when you start so they'll be pleased that you're keen!

Thanks for the reply. I thought as much, but I'm just so excited GrinGrin

Next week is going to be tough!

Yes, wait for the contract. I am in the same boat. I accepted a job offer today but won't hand my notice in until I get the contract (and read it).

Always wait for the contract, then put your notice in!
