Being made redundant

Don't know where to start as it's come as a total shock to me.

Today we've been told our store will be closing & we are entering CVA. Our store will close within 12months & I've been working there for 9years.

I would like to find out how my redundancy would work out?

How long notice do they need to give me?

Tia x

Redundancy Pay calculator : www.gov.uk/calculate-your-redundancy-pay
You will need to know dates, so pick a date in the future that you anticipate may be the last working day.

Notice depends on your contract as it may give you better rights than statutory minimum.
Statutory notice would be 9 weeks in your case as you have completed 9 whole years and not reached the max of 12 weeks statutory notice.

As it is a store closure that has yet to happen, look at other opportunities within the same company if you feel you want to stay... another store in your geographic area may still be open as they may be thinking of keeping some stores and disposing of non-profitable ones.

Thanks horrible isn't it!

Would you happen to know when they work out completed years, is it from your first day of employment or to the next tax year?

So I started on 6th June 2009.

We've just been through this and it's not fun.

Each full year worked from the start date.

Read up on the govt webpage around redundancy and rights etc.

We had a 3 months period where we knew it would happen but didn't have any paperwork and if had moved to a new job would have been resigning instead of made redundant so there was a huge game of chicken going on where we had a job offer in place but had to wait for official notice before agreeing a start date (luckily usually a 3 month notice period so started earlier than most would anyway so wasn't an issue).

Once had the redundancy paperwork, payment was through within a fortnight which was good.

Get everything in order now, download any pay slips, important email addresses,'pension info etc. Use up holiday. You come first and you need to protect yourself.

Just seen you are pregnant - you have extra protection here, make sure they know!

Stat maternity pay will be entitled to regardless assuming you are employed in the qualifying weeks
