Right, so, I am due to return to work from maternity leave a fortnight come Monday. Officially I returned on the 14th May, but thanks to having to take annual leave pro-rata maternity leave and Bank Holidays in lieu I dont actually step foot in the office until Monday 4th June.

My payslip arrived today and should have been for my last two weeks of mat leave and 2 weeks of normal pay. However due to my 'stupid, dimwit, can't use a computer, cant be asked to try, idiot, no family of my own, I've got 2 houses and 2 cars, I'm alright jack' manager not following correct procedures, the payroll department are not aware of my iminent return and so all I got today was 2 weeks Mat pay!! £227! Less than I have been getting monthly for the last 6 months!

instead of light at the end of our tunnel we have had the floor taken from under us.

Payroll advised if my manager completes the form before close of business tomorrow they can correct my pay by next Friday - however he is on a course for the rest of the week. So therefore I will have to wait two weeks if he manages to do it by next weekend.

Thank goodness DH and I had some savings to fall back on otherwise we would have been up sh*t creek.

I have e-mailed my boss about the situation. But was wondering should I e-mail his boss in his absence, although I have never met her as she got the position while I was on mat leave - perhaps she could intervene. I have no intention of letting them know we had savings, and intend to tell them how close we came to defaulting a mortgage payment just to put food on the table.

My manager swans around doing feck all and I really want him to get in the sh*t over this as it's playing with peoples lives, not just making there hours of work a grind.

Any ideas.

Low fat, the exact same thing happened to me two weeks ago. first they said that 10 days pay loss wasn't a big deal so they wouldn't correct it. I pointed out that this was a third of my take home pay and HR still wouldn't move. It took my boss telling hr that she would give me unpaid leave to look after ds until they paid me properly for them to hand over the cash and even then it took 10 days to get it! YOu should email your bosses boss and emphasise the need to pay for childcare out of this months wages in order to return to work and that if money is not received you will be unable to return.

That would'nt work BWB. We dont have the cost of childcare and he knows it because we share care thanks to our hours of work. However if the money I am missing is just a little more than a months mortgage payment.

Yes I agree that you should e-mail his boss, after all she is the only person you can contact seeing as he is off. Hopefully she will see what a dick he is!

I am expecting the same thing to happen to me by the way, back in the office next Monday!

I wouldn't threaten to not go back, makes it more complicated and you don't really have that right

definately email the bosses boss. this needs to be dealt with. happens all too often because whilst on mat leave you are temporarily removed from the payroll system, so unless someone instigates the change they'll be no pay.

Wen were recently told by an employee of my parents that the CAB had advised him that it was illegal for us to withold his pay.

Now the reason we were with-holding it was he had not, despite numerous warmings, yet again, submitted his time sheet on time.

So I am sure that if this is the case they can't withold your pay becasue of something your manager has failed to do.

I work for the NHS, and so it might be different, but when they stuffed up my wages (repeatedly) and didn't pay me AT ALL, because they didn't realise I was entitled to sick pay, they also offered to correct it by the end of the following week.

I informed them in no uncertain terms that this was wholly unacceptable, and demanded that I be given a cash advance for an approximate amount owed, which could be deducted from my backpay when they sorted it. Despite being a huge organisation, they did comply, I think because they have to.

Also, I think it is your right to demand that they pay for any consequence of their error (such as bank default charges) if you can prove that they are as a result of not getting the pay that you were owed.
