Job Rejection/ disappointment.

Dream job came up, I waited months to get to interview as I was the only applicant first time around, so they re-advertised. I did so much preparation for the interview, the interview went well better than I expected. They gave me great feedback, said they wanted to employ me but I was just lacking one of the essential skills (but something I could have learned quickly ) and I only wanted 4 days , they ideally wanted full time. I accepted that and was positive, told myself that it was fair enough and that the successful applicant must have been great etc. Today I find out I was the only applicant that actually turned up for the interview, and they haven't appointed anyone. I feel gutted and a bit humiliated. I felt bad missing out to someone else but to miss out to no-one just feels worse !! I know they weren't obliged to tell me at the feedback that no-one got it, but now the rest of my team seem to have found this out before me ! Please someone help me see this rationally and not feel so gutted !! they are now re-advertising again.

It could quite simply be they need 5 days and/or greater flexibility than you were offering them. No amount of learning a new skill was going to change that.

Try to look at it as a positive, you've gained some valuable interview experience you cab use again elsewhere. Good luck :)

Would it be worth contacting them and asking if you could initiate a conversation about working full time? Assuming you would do that for a dream job......

Babyroobs · 16/05/2018 13:31

grumpy - Yes I have thought of doing that as I really think that was the main reason for not getting it. It would just be very difficult to commit to full time but not impossible. I kind of wish I hadn't mentioned that I only wanted 4 days prior to interview but didn't want to spend a long time preparing if they wouldn't even consider 4 days.

Must be gutted :-( I'm sure they really liked you but it's just the full time thing. They would have been able to tell how well prepared for the interview you were too :-)

Good luck with it all :-)

Perhaps write a letter underscoring your interest and that you are happy to do 5 days?

mimibunz · 18/05/2018 21:06

It can’t hurt!

I’m sorry, if they said you lacked one of the essential skills, this probably means you are not appointable. Is there any way you can gain that skill to support a future application?
