Sad Hey I'm after a bit of advice I suppose. So... I went on maternity leave in November, I'm currently working Kit days on an occasional Mondays. - a but of back storyA new person started in September with us we work in education. She was working 21 hours the same as myself and covering 9 hours of my maternity leave. I was supposed to return to work after easter I then decided to spend more time. With my baby and extended it until September. So I left on 21 hours I've been told that there might not be enough hours for me in September due to low numbers of children.. Fine BUT they have offered the new member of staff who's covering my maternity 27-30 hours a week. I have I've been there a while now and they've made my confidence drop to an all time low. I have just had a baby and need to work.. Nobody at our work place has a contract so I don't know where I stand in the legality any advice much appreciated. I sorry for the long post... I'm just so upset Sad

I am sorry bit I don't have any answers. Commenting in hope I give you a helpful bump. Also if I was in your situation, I would phone ACAS, just to see if they can make you clear on the legalities of it.
You might find it is legal, just not very ethical.

Hi, did you manage to contact ACAS? because i think this is not ok for them to do this. Effectively you are being discriminated against because you have had a child and exercised your statutory right to take maternity leave.

Samcj02 · 16/05/2018 07:36

No I haven't contacted Acas yet but I'll get on that today. I also feel I am being discriminated against. Posting in the hope that anybody knows the legality of this? I but I'll get on to Acas ASAP thanks x

You do have a contract, its just you don't have a written contract. You could speak to Jasmine Loggerenberg, she does equality and discrimination, not sure where she works now, Google her? Worth having a chat with ACAS first.

Maternity Action are brilliant for this sort of thing. I phoned them about advice relating to my pregnancy and they were just so great!

I was a blubbering mess when I called them but they solved my discrimination problems!

Thank you I'll call them Monday! :) I need to find out if I have a leg to stand on. Stressing about it all x
