Entering into Recruitment?

I've experience as a PA/Medical Secretary.

I've heard recruitment is very good money.

How would I go about getting into it?

I saw someone say it's a job for those without a soul and very cut throat. Could anyone elaborate on this?

I come across as very professional, polite and likeable.

Is that enough? Along with my skills from previous roles.

Thank you Thanks

It's a sales job - you get paid when you place someone into a job. The hard work is finding the roles (this often involves cold calling companies, who often don't want to speak with you) and good candidates ('good' the key).

Alternatively, you could work in-house. This involves writing ads, arranging interviews and completing pre-employment checks. It's admin heavy and the money isn't good

‘Polite’ is not a trait I’d associate with agency recruiters! It is a sales job. Basic salaries are rubbish, commission is good, if you’re good enough to get it. Forget about the people side & funding candidates a job, it’s all about selling to clients.

Also, in-house Recruitment is very competitive, the market is full of agency recruiters wanting to go in house to escape the pressure of agencies, all of whom will have good experience.

I worked in recruitment, now in HR so I’ve experienced it from all sides!

Ive been in sales for over 20 years but would never touch Recruitment.
It’s very target driven hardcore sales with a high staff turnover
It’s pretty easy to get into because if you don’t hit targets quickly and regularly you will be out
I know people who do it successfully but generally they don’t have dc ( or have a wife and dc). The hours can be long as well
You can make good money doing it but it’s hard work and high stress

Why do you want to go into recruitment? As everyone else has said, it's a cut-throat business and your only comment on it relates to having heard that it's well-paid. It is lucrative if you place people continuously but as everyone else said, it's a high-pressure sales job so you need persistence and a thick skin!

I used to work in a HR role where I was that person that recruitment companies cold called/pestered on a daily basis looking for any opportunites. In the end we had to give a list to reception of the agencies we were dealing with (as they all tried to pretend to reception that they were already doing business with us even though most were cold calling)

So if you want to be that annoying person who has to call people who don't want to talk to you and get told 'no thank you!' 95% of the time, go ahead and become a recruitment consultant.
