Annual leave and holiday entitlements

Morning. Please be patient and clear with me as I am an institutionalised teacher and so employment law and leave are not things I have ever had to worry about.

I have recently applied for two non teaching roles (both still in education, however). I withdrew form the first because they couldn't offer full time.

I did not phone the second lot before applying, as that often throws up so many things that one gets cold feet and I am going for suck it and see.

Howvere, my friend was also thinking of applying and asked about holidays and was told 25 days (I am not too sure where Bank Hold figure in that). Iam taken aback as the other post was 35 days pro rat plus BHs plus Xmas shutdown: so pretty good in hindsight.

I know this is the disadvantage of leaving teaching but this seems v stingy to me ( I suspect this is because they want staff in over school holiday periods ..)

Before I waste everyone's time : I thought minimum was 28 days? Am I right on this? I was prepared for a culture shock but am not prepared to lose all decent school holiday time altogether or to have lower holidays than many others who work in the education support/charity sector... It is also a few thousand £ pay cut. Although that bit may actually benefit me tax wise.

They should have been clearer in their job description/ advertisement really, shouldn't they? : no hours specified and no holiday specified. Perhaps I now know why!!

Min is 28 days but this can include bank hols.

25 days plus BH is very standard

EveningHare · 17/04/2018 11:00

I think the min is 20 plus 8 for bank hols

The 25 will probably be plus by

The 35 is VERY generous if doesn't include by ( and not too shabby if it does)

Have a look at the ACAS website - the outside of Teaching education jobs are poorly served to be honest, you will likely get legal minimum etc although you may be able to work from home during holiday periods.

28 days is the minimum. Often this is interpreted as 20 plus 8 bank holidays but there is no law for this (eg shift workers and retail staff don't automatically get the bank hol off but do still get a min of 28 days)

25 plus BH is standard. 35 PlUS BH is exceptional.

Teaching holidays are phenomenal - 13 weeks holiday, so I guess half that does seem stingy but that's the real world Hmm

5.6 weeks. So on a 5 day a week job, usually 28 days which include the bank hols.

OK, so it's the Bank Hols I need to check about really....?

25 plus Bank Hols would be 33 days then?

25 just seemed an odd number and below the 28, so I was kind of assuming the Bank Hols would then be factored on top.

Oh well, I'm in a secure job now ( I just don't like it much!) so if it appears no good, I just won't accept.

It's an odd job anyway, so I'd need to be convinced there was even enough work to do to fill the hours.
