medical appointment in the middle of the day, would you go to work for an hour an a half?

since travelling to and from work takes 35 minutes?
i didnt plan to go to work before my appointment, just afterwares but have just had a reminder about the appointment which is basically in the middle of the day?

Depends on the culture at your workplace. At mine I would suggest working from home and I know my manager would be totally fine with it.

Yes I would. Your travel time has nothing to do your employer. You can’t just not go to work for 90 minutes for your own convenience!

yep, it would be better in that case, it is indeed not their issue that i have travel time, petrol costs

In our organisation, time away from the office for medical appointments has to be made up again so taking more time off before the appointment would just mean making more time up. I work in the NHS.

If you can have time off without making it up, then surely you be at work for as long as possible either side of the appointment?

Yes, I would. I know you probably didn't choose the time, but if you didn't come in to work first I'd think you were a bit of a piss-taker. Is working from home or adjusting your hours an option?

Well you might not want but do you need it?

I'd go in, the time to travel there isn't that bad, you won't get much done but you've shown your face. Just make sure you leave on time

As standard we get an hour for an appointment so any time more than that we make up. At manager discretion though. I tend to not ask for any time to be made up unless there's a huge amount of appointments because I know if I had something I needed appointments for I would expect support.

If you can't work from home of course you need to go into work! It's annoying but the way it is unfortunately.

If the appointment is at mid day or thereabouts you need to either go in before or after. A full day for a medical appointment is crazy unless it’s a procedure and you can’t go back after it.

Most employers expect you to have it at the start of the working day or end. Can you rearrange?
