Managing contracts? In what context?

Tatties · 12/05/2007 12:41

Is it when a temp agency manages employees for a company?

GiantSquirrelSpotter · 12/05/2007 13:37

Well exactly.

Is it just common sense? Managing contracts?

This is in a social housing context

It will be in effect managing contracts yes. Usually applies in the service industry - will involve making sure contractors (may be big firm or lots of seperate contractors?) are doing what they are supposed to do and when. That they follow procedures, reach targets and agreeing these targets and procedures with them. And day to day management and fielding of queries or complaints. That sort of thing. HTH.

If it is a job advertisement, I should imagine it is just means that part of the role is to manage contracts with suppliers etc. Would that make sense?

GiantSquirrelSpotter · 12/05/2007 14:02

Yes that makes sense, you've reassured me, sometimes this jargon makes me nervous and makes me think something's more complicated than it actually is

I think it's to do with procurement. I've known some very good contract managers. Some of them might negotiate contracts too sometimes with help from lawyers and then make sure the supplier does what it should and that sort of thing. Look at CIPS web site as that might say something about it. cips.org.uk or cips.org or something.

Our contracts managers tender for contracts (building trade) then oversee the carrying out of those contracts. Things like making sure health and safety and risk assesmnents are done. Making sure the work keeps to schedule, managing subcontractors and basically making sure the job pays its way.
