Am I harassing them?

My manager knows that I have been offered a different job (requirement, I didn't just tell them) and now my department has effectively 'wound down my job until I start my new one'.

I haven't received a formal offer yet, despite checks/references being completed end of March and me being told that there were no issues. Now my manager and area manager are (justifiably) asking me whether I've got a start date yet every day.

I have called the new employer several times; every time I call them they say that someone will contact me today/tomorrow, but the days are ticking by and still nothing. I called a manager from the department I'll be working for on Monday, and they said that they would have my new line manager call back hopefully that same day. It's now Wednesday and still nothing. aibu to call them again?

I don't want to come across as annoying, but then the situation at work is becoming increasingly awkward and I'm starting to get frustrated.

Why on earth did you tell your current employers before you had a formal offer?

Surely it's only required once it's official?

I would call again....definitely! I would also make it very clear that you can't wait any longer....speak to someone in HR and let them know you can't hang around but will be forced to give up the opportunity.

I'm confused. Is the new job a different department in the same company ie an internal transfer or are you leaving your current employer and going to a new company? If its the former id be slightly less concerned than the latter.

Have you formally handed your notice in, resignation letter etc or is all the interaction just verbal and not in writing?

CotswoldStrife · 11/04/2018 14:33

I assume OP has told her current employer because they were approached for a reference.

I don't think this is an internal transfer, but a change of company to one in the same line of business, possibly a competitor. So the current employer would start to wind down the OP's access to anything that might help a competitor.

I'm thinking you haven't formally resigned yet, OP? How long is your notice period or are they likely to let you leave sooner if it's a competitor?

Deathbydolla · 11/04/2018 14:36

I didn't 'tell' my employers, they're bound to find out as they are required to fill in a transfer form before employment checks etc are done.

The new job is not with the same employer, but both jobs are in the public sector. It's not verbal, but nothing is being done on their part and I now seem to have no job. Sad

Ah op I have seen a similar thing happen and sadly if you have not signed an employment agreement with the new job but have given notice at your old one you can wind up in this position. Sounds like things may have changed for your new employers and the job offer may be withdrawn. Can you withdraw your resignation (if you have given it) and hang onto the old job?

lifechangesforever · 14/04/2018 06:46

You've answered your own question there .. 'it's in the public sector' it took 3 months for me to move INTERNALLY with my PS employer and we've done loads of outside recruitment lately and lost quite a lot of candidates to other places due to it taking so long to complete the offer process.

TalkFastThinkSlow · 14/04/2018 06:52

Did you give in your notice, or just tell them you've been offered a new job?

Cos they're not the same thing
