Hi,

I’m currently a deputy manager in a care home and I’m really not enjoying the experience. I’m leaving the job in November when I’m going off to teach but I’m a bit stuck because I’ve got the opportunity to self-demote and go to night senior where it will leave me time to do my studying as I’ve been struggling doing days. I had a meeting with my manager who asked me to think on it until Monday but it’s gonna be hard for the next 3 months but should get better after. I’m just not feeling like I can give 100% and don’t want to be unhappy. Would you continue on the position I’m in or would you drop down? Some advice would be very appreciated, thank you.

Are you a registered nurse, why are you struggling with day shifts, if you stepped down to night senior would your duties change much, would you be able to adjust to nights with sleeping. What does it mean it will be hard, for, the next three months, what is likely to,change after that. Has your manager offered any support or do you just not like the job anymore, it's a difficult job and a lot of responsibility.

No I’m not a registered nurse, we’ve been basically made to do 2 job roles in one shift which is the deputy role and the senior role, I’ve also found out today that we may need to go in the kitchen somedays too and out food on if the chef don’t turn in. My manager said the home may improve in 3 months or it could just get worse. The job load is unreal, the staff have no care and always bickering. I’ve got an opportunity to step down to night senior which might not be there in 3 months. Is it worth just dropping down and be happy?

I think you’re considering this a binary choice but it isn’t. You could leave and take a job elsewhere?

Hello All,

I wonder if someone can advise me on a new work contract. Basically I've been offered a job and accepted (verbally) however on receiving my new contract it states I'll be paid on a pro rata basis, which wasn't mentioned at any point in my interview or in an email from my new boss. If I'd known the salary was based on pro rata I would never has accepted or even applied. I've contacted the company but am waiting for a reply... I'm supposed to start Monday but I don't want to start there until this is sorted? At what point should employers state a role is pro rata?

Thanks in advance for any help or wise words as I currently feel like a complete and utter idiot!
