Daughter is going to an interview where the job is a 15 hours a week contact for term time only.

Does it mean that if she only works 13 hours one week she still gets paid for 15? Does it mean that if she only works 13 she will have to do something else for 2 hours?

Also, do all employers pay their staff throughout the school holidays so they just get a reduced amount when they are not working, or do they get no money through the holidays?

I am self employed so totally confused! Your help would be greatly appreciated x

I would hazard a guess that the 15 hours means that...two hours will be allocated to another task if not used (or towards meetings, inset etc) depends on the role.
I have worked in a school setting term time only. You are not paid for holidays but your wages are divided over 12 months. So if you were on 18k per annum term time only you'd be taking home a grand a month.

Bit confused as to why you think she would work 13 hours if her contract is for 15? That could include tidying up / getting things ready for subsequent shifts.

If she works in a school then she'll be paid across 12 months (an assuming that's what her contract says). But I would be surprised if all employers do that, would assume not.

She might for example be providing learning support 13 hours with two hours non-contact time. The two hours would be made up in planning, reporting, liaising. Just as an example.

Or clerical/pupil supervision 3 hours a day...if school breaks up early, she would be paid the same rate (the division by 12 ensures this...unless she is not on a salary p.a and is on an hourly rate, in which case you need to check).

Thanks for taking the time to reply. She would not be working in a school, she would be taking someone to school and then home again.

Im not sure people understand what you are talking about.

Its a 15 hour per week contract. So she will be at work for 15 hours.

Unless employed by the school or LEA, then ignore my previous input.
If it is a private contract I assume the pay will be monthly and nothing paid at all in school holidays. Not sure why some days would be shorter than others.

Not sure why you are asking about working less hours than 15? I would assume she is working 3 hours a day and from what you said about taking child to school then I'm thinking it's 1.5 hrs in the AM and 1.5 hrs in the PM? If your DD isn't sure on the working hours she needs to ask.

Term time pay is usually calculated by working out weeks to be paid which is 38 weeks plus 6 weeks holiday and 8 days bank holidays holidays for example so may be paid 45.7 weeks. So salary is calculated as

Full time salary/whole time hoursXpart time hours
Then this figure is divided by 52.14285 (weeks in year)X45.7 ie paid weeks.

They would then get 1/12 of this pay every month regardless of how many days worked this month and how many are school holidays.

Hope this makes sense.
