What exactly am I being offered here? Job offer

Hello, I've been offered a part time tutoring position, the person who made the informal offer told me it was a 90 day contract on a ten week term , 30 days per term. I haven't been told any other info other than a formal email from HR yesterday, saying the salary is £15,750 per annum for a 90 day contract. The Woman who I initially spoke to has gone on holiday for several weeks and the HR lady is away for two weeks.

I am terrible at maths and really have no idea whats been offered here, what is the rate of pay? Is it three days per week? What tax will I pay? I've asked all this but no one will come back to me for another couple of weeks and I need to try to figure out what is on the table. I've asked to see the term structure, what working hours are etc.

Would really appreciate some help, TIA.

A 10 week term is 50 working days so you are doing 3/5. The salary is presumably 3/5 of a full time tutor. As it is not permanent, you do not, presumably, get holiday pay. Divide the quoted rate by 3. Then £5230 x 5 is £26,150 for the 50 days which presumably would be considered full time. I think this is right!

You would also need to know if 30 days is all contact time and what the job looks like each day. How much negotiation is there each day regarding daily hours. How much evening work for example. Is it at home, or in a “college”. I am surprised they have not quoted an hourly rate. Most tutors I know are hourly paid.

This is so helpful BubblesBuddy thank you so much!! I don't get holiday pay but do get sick pay, BUPA, and birthday day off(although mine falls on a Saturday this year so that's no use). You're so right, I do need to know what the contact time is like and what is expected, it's v open ended at the mo which makes me a little uncomfortable.

Thanks again! xx Flowers

Ask for a job description and try and get them to be up front about daily hours. Is it the same every day or two long days and one short day, for example. Good luck.

redlondonbuses · 05/04/2018 20:36

I will ask for specifics, thank you BubblesBuddy xx

All jobs should come with holiday pay, permanent or temporary.

redlondonbuses · 05/04/2018 20:57

PandaPieForTea really? even part time/90 day contracts?

Does anyone know how holiday pay is allocated for part time roles?

Yes - even on a short term contract.

Thank you so much PandaPieForTea Flowers

Lots of people work on a fixed hours contract and this one is presumably term time only. Supply teachers get an enhanced rate and this takes holiday pay into account. That’s why you have to look at the contract.
