Lunch break

How long is your lunch break and do you get paid for it? Also do you have any other breaks in the day and are they paid/unpaid? (Intended for people working full time). Just curious.

1 hour lunch break unpaid. No other breaks although can go to the toilet or get a drink as and when required. Other colleagues who smoke take a shorter lunch and have a break in the morning and afternoon to smoke. All breaks unpaid.

30 mins unpaid, 2 x 15 min breaks both paid

We have time sheets so can take pretty much as long as we want but all unpaid so I normally take 30 mins (which is the minimum allowed where I work) but have taken up to an hour and 30 min when I had some family stuff to sort out or to go for a run.

Lunch is unpaid. Minimum of 30 minutes has to be taken but have flexitime and we run on time sheets so actual length variable (pop to bank, occasionally lunch with friend or colleague etc.) No official other breaks but we have a relaxed office so tea and chats sometimes. More flexible if I'm working from home. Should note though that I usually work far more than 'normal' hours so flexibility goes both ways.

Lunch is unpaid

I'm entitled to an hour but I can finish early or start later if I have a shorter lunch
I also can get paid if it's not possible to use the time back

When I worked full time I had 1 hour for lunch unpaid and a 30 minute paid tea break. I worked in a university though and it was standard across all departments. As we all worked very separately they saw it as a chance for us to have some collaboration time.

30 mins unpaid lunch
10 min paid break morning
37hrs
Can make tea/coffee etc in the afternoon if you want but no official sit down break

It has always depended, for me, on whether my salary was expressed as an annual salary or per hour.

On all my 'salaried' jobs I had an hour's lunch break, and any other breaks were at my or my manager's discretion. All breaks were paid.

On all my 'hourly rate' jobs my lunch break was unpaid, and it varied between 30-90 minutes. Tea-breaks were paid, but never guaranteed. If you left the premises for a tea-break you had to clock out, which meant you were unpaid during that break.

Half an hour, unpaid. It has to be taken between 1130 and 1330 as well, but we're flexi and I can make as many brews/have a back stretching wander/go the loo as I want in the day.

snowgirl1 · 04/04/2018 14:08

Theoretically 1 hour unpaid. Reality, pop out to buy sandwich then come back to eat it at my desk and work.

I've never worked anywhere that has given a paid break.

RatherBeRiding · 04/04/2018 16:43

Unpaid, minimum 15 mins. However, I'm on a time-sheet so I take as little/much as I want up to an hour(ish) and log it on my time-sheet.

No provision for formal breaks but it's the kind of job where you can go for a brew, loo, leg stretch as and when.

Pinkprincess1978 · 08/04/2018 18:12

Legally you should get 20 mins unpaid after working 6 hrs.

I work way more than my contracted hours and my lunch breaks Varys depending on how busy I am between just eating at my desk and working through or taking just enough time to go to canteen and eat to taking a long lunch at home and doing a bit of house work too (I travel so if my morning work finishes around lunch time I might call home for lunch on way back to base).

I work 0830 - 1600 and get 30 minutes unpaid .
