Is anyone here a social worker?

I know you have to have a degree now unless you hold the old qualifications, but what is the equivalent entry level position? Is it just a care worker or is there something else like a social worker's assistant? If you have that type of position, how likely is it to be sponsered into a degree/qualification?

And how likely is part time work?

I'd really appreciate any advice, thanks.

Hi kiki81. Lots of people start of as social work assistants (ssa's; and often practically do the same job as s/w)then get seconded to to do s/w training so that they are still paid while they study, usually with some kind of tie in to the council that seconded them.
If you have a degree I think that the masters in s/w is still going in some areas, so it might be worth checking with your local uni. Does that answer your question?

Oh, sorry forgot to add that part time work is often available, where I live anyway. If you are a field social worker (working in the community) you can often be quite creative with your hours and working from home is becoming more common too.

I think a social work assistant is the position I'm after. Where would I look for one? I've looked through two local councils and there's nothing.

kiki, don't know if you're already sorted now. but, a lot of las no longer call these positions ssa's. look for a care co-ordinator, or care manager. these are often the unqualified positions in sw teams.

most work with las is open to job share, and flexi time, termtime work etc.
