h
i am in the process of designing a website to sell retro/funky kids clothes and i am also going to do the party plan too.

doing research for possible other lines to sell ive come across a couple of things/suppliers that i think are wonderful but i need some other mums advice, good or bad on what i should sell.

thinking along the lines of reasonably priced fairtrade/organic baby/child related products. such as:

leather padders (like daisy roots/shoo shoo) that are FT and go up to age 3/4 retailing for approx £13

cool kids fleece tops that use recycled plastic bottles?

FT cotton pyjamas?

FT aprons (kids)

FT pretty summer dresses

wooden toys only using sustained resources

time out mats

safe shatterproof mirrors in cool shapes/designs

organic cotton newborn clothes & bedding

organic cotton underwear

what do you think?? any would be best sellers?? any white elephants??
i'm not going to overwhelm the website but i do need a plan of progression to add a new line/range every 2/3 months.

thanks for your help in advance!!!

I'd avoid the time out mats - don't feel those would sell... though could be wrong of course.
Wooden toys take up lots of stock space... do you have a big warehouse? Small items perhaps, but not large things.

Keeping a theme I feel would be good. Could you just do all Organic things / FT which are clothing related.

LIZS · 13/05/2007 21:53

Depends on price tbh - probably the organic / ft newborn would do well and perhaps in bundles as gift sets ? Not sure how much repeat business you might get if you restrict yourself to that list though. Agree the mats seem out of keeping and a bit gimmicky. Where does funky and retro fit in ?

The danger is if you have too many options(size/colours of same style) you have to hold a lot of stock waiting for orders btu asta the same time you need to create a solid range for each age group/look.

Dont like the sound of time out mats , however they probably would sell because of all the 'Supernanny' type programmes.

Bottom of the stair is cheaper

Good luck anyway .

thanks people

i have no warehouse just very small 3 bed house. i am hoping to sell by drop shipping - i do the website and promote products - customers order and pay through me i then get the order sent directly to the customer.

is there anything that you would like more widely availabe? stuff from other countries?

I live in Germany, and we get lots of lovely wooden toys that are not so widely available in the uk. I often give friends at home a dummy chain, like this
Have never seen them in Uk

Do you get Haba produkts? They are lovely, but not retro or 70s. description

Good luck!

LIZS · 14/05/2007 09:13

agree with macmama73, there are some lovely toys available in Europe such as Haba , Kaethe Kruese, Corolle, Ravensburger, have a look on Amazon.de for examples, which are much harder to come by here and expensive. Not sure how you may find branded products and imports squeeze your profit margins plus an extra complication in your supply chain. Do you already have suppliers lined up who will supply ad hoc direct to customers ?

amidaiwish · 14/05/2007 10:14

mamatoto sell a lot of wooden toys including those dummychains macmama linked to.

why don't you think about tying up with someone like that, using them as a wholesaler rather than having to hold all the stock yourself?

alle01 · 23/03/2010 20:16

what are the essentials i need for bedding for my new born? there are so many things that i am confused, do i need all that?

susalonso · 27/03/2010 09:39
