Recruiters - would it put you off if someone had only been in their current job for a month? Even if they had a good reason for wanting to leave?

Reason is that the role has been changed from the once I accepted, due to a restructure that I wasn't made aware of until I started.

I feel very out of touch with the culture of the organisation too, it's a very aggressive place with managers arguing and blaming each other in front of customers, and I don't like that.

What is a reasonable answer to "why are you leaving your current post"?

Thanks

It would be better to briefly say that the job role was not as described rather than criticise the management. Then go on to describe the role that you want to go for and why you are well suited to it.

Try to frame it as having learnt a bit about yourself and what you want to achieve in future.

I just hired someone who had been in post for less than 6 months.

I know other people who have worked in her old place though and they had been having a horrible time with a very difficult boss so it didn't bother me.

I think if there is a reasonable explanation that isn't too antagonistic people will understand.

Short explanation of a restructure and role change will be sufficient. If someone slags off the previous company at interview though... That's a worry for me. It's an interview, not a tribunal. Keep it light and you will be fine.

Hi op. I've just got a new job. Been in my "old" job 3 months. Similar as you plus they were clearly in financial difficulties! I just said that I wasn't aware of the restructuring this in turn had changed the job role plus there was a financial security issue. New place had no problems!

Hi Op, I'm looking for a new job after just 3 months. I've spoken to a few recruiters who have said it's not an issue and fairly common. I think as long as you don't job hop regularly, then it's ok (I was in my last role 10 years). I've been advised to say just say that the role is different to what was described.

No, but I would look back over their career history to see if it was a pattern.

As a one off and as long as you don’t slag them off unprofessionally in the interview I’d be fine with it. If I see a cv that has a very short time in last job but otherwise ticks all the boxes I’ll ask the recruiter what’s going on - if the answer seems reasonable I’ll interview and ask for the explanation again face to face.
