Accountacy Costs

What are people paying for accountancy costs for a limited company with turnover of circa £150k per annum?

The reason I ask is my current accountant charges £800 per annum which seems cheap (company return, personal return, PAYE etc but I do my own VAT) but he's pretty hopeless and despite me sending all my numbers in June 2 years in a row he's down my personal tax return on the 30th Jan and the stress is too much for me!

I went to an accountancy franchise and for turnover of £150k they quoted £1140 + VAT for company accounts and £225 + VAT for personal tax return so the total would be more like double. I'm happy to pay about £1200 for a better service but I'm not sure about double?

Is your current accountant or the proposed franchise a qualified accountant? Literally anyone can call themselves an accountant, whether or not they have experience, qualifications, insurance etc., so be aware of that.

I'd say your current accountant is too low, and the proposed accountant around average assuming they're qualified/regulated. You'd find cheaper and more expensive as charges vary enormously.

You'd be better thinking about finding someone you feel you can get on with, i.e. personality, convenience, etc., rather than fixated on price.

We pay £65 per month for the services of a CA to do our monthly PAYE,end of year books, VAT etc (we are in East Anglia if that makes any difference)

Both are qualified. I'm the only employee so PAYE is not arduous.
