I’m currently on mat leave and due to return st the beginning of May. I’m in the process of writing a FW request to go back part time however in the past two weeks I’ve seen a job advertised with better hours and which is more suited to my skill set, the hours are such I wouldn’t need childcare either - it’s a job I would have applied for regardless of kids. I’ve applied and been given an interview at the end of next week.
My difficulty is, if I’m appointed I would need to return to my old job for 3 months or repay what is a very generous mat leave. I have a lot of annual leave to take so could return to my old employer and take annual leave which would give me space to take up the new job. I have permission from my employer already to have a second job (I also run a small business) so there’s nothing contractual from their point of view that says I can’t work for anyone else while working for them, and the new job is in a slightly different sector so no direct competition.
Does it sound ok to go back, use my annual leave to accommodate the new job and resign at the end of my pay back period?
