Not sure what to do next - career change suggestions?

I work in a senior marketing role. I like managing a team, the creativity and the planning/project management but really don't like increasingly having to present and discuss strategy at board level. As I've got older I've also become more introverted and would like a 'quieter' job.

I can't afford to lose income but are there project management roles I could do instead that might still allow me to do all the things I love with less of the politics and presentations?

Are most project management types of roles mainly in tech and IT? (No offense to anyone here but I don't think I'd find that particularly interesting). Would I need to do Prince2 or something similar?

Are there other types of roles I could do outside marketing. Open to suggestions! Thanks.

I wouldn't think that project management will be a quieter job. You're the pivotal person in the team and would need to cajole everyone along/turn up to meetings and lead.

I guess I don't mind that as long as there is more down time and less pressure to present strategy etc. At the moment I am ways in meetings and there is little time to do the quieter bits of the job that I like e.g. sitting down and planning/plotting time lines etc. I don't mind speaking to people sometimes!

Oh yeah, uninterrupted time! I need a job with some of that!!!

I wouldn't call being a PM a quieter job and there's still strategy etc involved.

I had to smile with your OP Kai that your expectation of project management as not involving politics and strategy. I can't think of a role more immersed in politics than project management.

If you don't enjoy the strategic presentations, PM probably isn't a good choice either. I'm not sure any role is quiet nowadays if you want to earn decent money, they want their pound of flesh.

Thanks for all the comments. I'm not looking for a quiet job, nor a job without any presentations or strategy. As I said, just a job with less of that, that is quieter than the one I am in now (as I am in meetings for most of the day with little time for the planning and project management and doing part). I've worked with project managers and yes, they were involved in strategy but there was usually a separate strategy team who focused on this. Would be great to hear others' experience though.

Project management was one example but my post is really about any type of alternative role where I am doing, well, more doing and more planning which I enjoy. And that might perhaps make use of my other skills too such as creativity.

Project management in software, if the place follows a modern practice (agile scrum), does not involve managing a team of people. The team manages itself. Your job will be definitely more presentation and strategy at the board level. Not less.

You can look at agile project management certification.

It may be that you just need to work for a different company or with a different team/boss.

There are variations within the same role.
