Potential redundancy looming, what prep should I do?

Hi, my company is looking likely to have a high number of redundancies coming up soon, and I am likely to be impacted.at this stage I don't know if I'd even want to stay, so if I can secure a decent pay out would consider voluntary redundancy if it's an option, but, what prep should or could I do before?
I am totally unsure what I'd want to do next and would love a break, but need to work and worry if I had a gap of not get anything else!
I am sharpening up CV but other than sending to agencies and targeted employers should I actively be doing anything else?
In hindsight what would you have done?
Thanks

My advice would be to work out how much you need each month to pay bills, direct debits etc. so that if you are presented with a redundancy calculation you are clear about how many months that represents (bear in mind that some may be taxable).

Have a think about whether there are any other roles in your organisation that you might consider. There may be suggestions of 'Suitable Alternative Roles' and again, it is helpful to have considered what else you might be able to do.

Ask whether there will be outplacement support as part of a package to assist with CV, career workshops, support etc.

If you do find yourself in a redundancy situation I would advise against discussing what you will/won't do with colleagues. Keep your thoughts to yourself as emotions can run high and it is easy to be swept along - the key thing is what the best option is for you and your family.

Good advice from Romaine. It's also a good time for a course/learning a new skill etc that might come in handy in future employment.

You could also make sure you save up in the meantime. I've been through redundancies twice and the packages offered can be pretty pathetic so don't get your hopes up for a fat payout.

See what help in terms of courses would be available to you. The job centre will know - don't drag your feed, sometimes there are time restrictions.
Work out your redundancy pay, is it worth staying? If not, start looking for other employment!
