I am self-employed as an audio transcriber. I set up and started this just over a year ago and it was going really well. I started by finding work on People Per Hour and then a couple of customers from there gave me direct work and we became connected and I therefore had a couple of regular clients. I was earning around £200 per week which is by no means big bucks but it was a bit of added extra income on top of what DP earns.

After a couple of months of setting up and working hard to establish the clients I found out I was pregnant. DD is now 12 weeks old. I had to stop working at 36 weeks as my pregnancy became high risk and my SPD was so bad that I couldn't sit at a desk for hours on end. The baby obviously was not part of my long term plans WRT growing my business. Due to this, I had to claim maternity allowance. This runs until July and is £140 per week.

My problem is that come July I'm going to have to start earning again. With the baby being about 8/9 months by then I know I certainly can't be sat at my PC for hours upon hours working. I need peace and quiet and I need time to try and build up more clients to grow my portfolio in order to increase my rates. I can't afford childcare at all. I think the audio transcription might have to be knocked on the head.

I really need some advice on what else I can do that earns me at least the same as maternity allowance per week. I am not university educated. I feel like I'm good at lots of things but not good enough to use them as a job. I can crochet but handicraft just doesn't earn enough. I'm getting worried now and panicking that I'm going to be so skint and have no other options. I'm getting that desperate that I just Googled direct selling...

Please help.

Some kind of web moderator?

The thing is that it's worth working even if you start with a net loss due to childcare because eventually your pay will rise and you will need childcare less. Call centre work is good if no uni qualifications. Uber offer great benefits in their call centre.

I honestly can't afford the net loss. We live week by week with no savings so I absolutely cannot afford childcare. This baby was a shock. My older dc are at school so childcare has never been an issue before.

I was a medical secretary before but that isn't feasible for remote work because of access to medical records.
