What is a court usher and what do they do?

They fetch witnesses/ defendants in and out of court. Pass messages, look after juries.

My mum is a court usher and she loves it! It can be pretty hectic and stressful if you have to sit on an unpleasant case, but it varies from day to day and she's never bored.

She also does stuff like swearing witnesses in, is in charge of recording all court conversations and keeping notes and also has to look after the judges when in chambers.

It is interesting. You need to be good with people as there are some very unpleasant ones at Court as you can imagine.

Depends on what sort of court it is. E.g. county court, or magistrates/Crown court. The ushers at the county court ensure that all parties are present for hearings, help with ferrying documents, etc., into court. Sometimes it can be a bit boring, other times hectic.

Not sure about criminal courts as that was never my bag.

I know a few retired police officers who do it.
As if they can't live on their Huge pensions!!
