Does my employer HAVE to send me a letter about my Maternity Leave.............

after I've 'officialy' informed them that I'm pg and telling them the dates I intend to take my Maternity Leave from?

I sent my manager the letter on the 7th February - when I was 23 weeks pg - I'm now 35 weeks pg and "officialy" on Maternity Leave (told them in the letter that I'd start Mat Leave on the 1st May - following straight on from my annual leave which I took in April).

While my manager acknowledged verbally that I would be starting my Maternity Leave in may/leaving work at the end of March I've not got ANYTHING in writing about it.

So although I "know" from my own research how much SMP I'm entitled too I have nothing from work about it.........she didn't even let me know that she'd passed on my MatB1 form to the pay office..........

So before I ring up and ask her to get it in writing for me........does she HAVE to?

I was given a letter by Personnel on Tuesday 3 April, my last day was 5 April - I was quite relieved as I wasn't sure what I should expect but did think something in writing would be useful. It was wrong as well (we have a choice between full pay and more time on half pay), so it was just as well I was still there to sort it out, and that the personnel officer is in my building and just down the corridor on the same floor.

I don't think (not positive though) that they do legally have to, but it's a bit odd not to.

Yes they do have to give you a letter upon receipt of your written confirmation.

They HAVE to respond within 28 days, and most importantly notify how long you can have off and the exact date they therefore expect you to return to work.

If they don't give you the return date then you can just turn up any day you please without giving them any notice whatsoever as in effect how do you know when you are due back or if you are returning early. The notification rules if returning early don't apply.

Yes, they do. And they have to do a risk assessment too for the job/duties you're doing.
