maternity advice

I need some advice please, I work for a well known retailer and while I was pregnant I was treated quite badly. They took my role off me which I was fine with and put me on a more customer service based role which included working on the customer service desk. I was told several times that other staff members were complaining about me because they wanted to work on the desk. I was then put on a till sat down for 2 and 3 hours at a time, in their own risk assessment they said I couldn't sit down or stand up for longer than an hour at a time. They only carried out a risk assessment at the start and that is it, I was left upset frequently by a supervisor who was horrible to me. I complained more than once and was told by management that they would get someone to "look out" for me. Nothing however changed and due to bad health I was off sick towards the time leading up to my maternity leave. I had sent in all the relevant sick forms and one day a manager who had not been nice to me phoned me and said that I hadn't called them that week and repeatedly kept strongly implying I would be receiving a disciplinary when I return to work after my maternity leave. I was extremely stressed out and that same evening I went into labour nearly 4 weeks early.

During my maternity leave I was diagnosed with anxiety disorder and depression, I was not once contacted by anyone from work throughout until a week before I was due to go back. I sent a letter to head office informing them that I would not be returning. I then heard nothing back and then in the post on Saturday 2nd Feb receive a letter inviting to a disciplinary for being AWOL it was to be held on Friday 1st February! But It was postmarked on Feb 1st and so there was no way that I could attend. Please can you give me advice on what to do and how I go about it?

You sent a resignation letter a week before you were due back? Are you only on a week's notice or were you asking them to release you early?

I think the first step is to ring whoever you wrote to and check they received it.

Get a lawyer or try citizens advice. You need legal help.

I was thinking about going back but got very anxious because of how they treated me. In the letter I asked them to release me early

Ok so you need to establish whether they received it. If you needed them to release you early and you hadn't heard that they had been prepared to do that, you should have checked rather than just not turning up to work.
