Good morning Mummies.
This is my first post here but I have been reading for a while. I am working for my current employer for about 3 years now. I took up the job at a time when I was desperate for a job but the pay was well below my expectation and market worth. My friends / peers got their first job earning at least 20% more than I earned. I have been through a promotion and I am barely earning around what my peers earned 3 years ago.
I like the job (although I worry that I am not learning anything new and it has no real challenge for my skills). The colleagues are Ok and I live in a non English speaking country but I am working in a job which I only need to speak English which is good.

I got contacted by a recruiter weeks back and I decided to give a new opportunity a chance. The new employer is willing to encourage me to be able to speak the new language. They even mentioned they will give me a training. I understand the language and I can read it but my speaking and writing are no where near professional level. This will be an opportunity to learn this language and feel more integrated into the society but I am worried if I am making the right decision.

FWIW, I find it difficult to get a better opportunity in my specialty because of my local language skills. I think it may be an opportunity to learn the langauage and perhaps be more competitive in the market.
Another point is that I work now for a big(upto 15000 employees in several locations all over the world) and very international organisation with prospects to move to a different location when possible. The new employer is local with less than 500 employees.
My current job requires a lot of travel which isn't practical with family ( I have young kids) and my OH is also working full time. This new job will not be requiring any travels.
Current job requires daily commute of up to 2.5 hours while new will be around 1.5 hours max.

Please I need your advise before I make a wrong decision.

So it's more money, shorter commute and no travel, which currently suits your family, and you'll have support to improve your language skills, which you already know holds you back.

In any case, unless you go for the new job and get offered it, you have no decision to make. If you have some concerns, then remember an interview is two-way, and an opportunity for you to find out if they would be a good employer for you.

P.S. Plenty of people here aren't mummies.

Sorry for using Mummies. I mean Mumsnet Team. I have already gone for the 2 interviews with 5 different people and hahe taken a tour round the plant. I got a call from HR yesterday that they are very happy and will make me an offer today. I already have them an indication of salary expectation prior to the 1st interview and they were happy.

Ditch the 'mummies' please. It's very patronising and unnecessary. You have very little to lose and much to gain I think. Go for it!
