Is this fair?

I will have been with my currently employer for 5 years in June. After 5 years service my annual leave entitlement increases. I have asked HR to let me know what this amounts to, pro rata, for the year. They have said that it won't apply until the next annual leave year (commencing April 2008) because it is too much trouble to calculate this!
So I will have to have worked for nearly 6 years before I get this entitlement!

You sure?!

they should up it from 5yrs, they are being lazy!

They need to get a real HR person in place. I would escalate this.

Bellie · 27/04/2007 13:36

As an ex-HR person I think that this is appalling!! They should easily be able to work this out! Agree with Genidef they should get a real HR person!!
Is there anyone that you can escalate this to?

nogoes · 27/04/2007 13:38

Depends what it states in your contract. It is pretty standard to have to wait until the next year to receive the entitlement.

HOwever if it says you will receive a pro rated amount this year then you are entitled to it. It is not hard for them to calculate. It works out about half a day doesn't it? Lazy arses.

This is the local HR manager. I know the national Director v well and the CEO is actually my line manager, so I am going to escalate it.

My contract states that I am entitled to the increase after 5 years service. It doesn't say that this commences the year after. This is breach of contract as far as I am concerned.
With a kid, I need all the paid leave I can get!

You are right - go girl

hmmm - if it really is a few hours i'm not sure i'd make a fuss. I don't think it's unreasonable to apply it when they new leave year starts.
