So, went back to work a few months ago. Just part time. A new job to me, eg didn’t go back to my previous job after my maternity leave.
It’s a job where there are a few supervisors who each head a team of 5 people. Above this are the managers.
Today one of the supervisors asked me to read something out to her from her personal mobile phone.
As I looked down I saw a message to her which had just popped up from my supervisor saying “have a fun day while I’m off, “blackwhitebrindle” thinks she’s so much better than everyone else and is such a snitch and goody two shoes, nightmare!”
I’m furious. I will admit that I do tend to talk to my supervisor every couple of weeks, just briefly to talk about my work load and because 2 people on my team aren’t pulling their weight I end up doing the work of 3 people so I just let her know this.
I also like things to be done properly (hence her goody two shoes comment I presume), but I don’t pull other people up on what they are doing wrong, I just worry about myself doing things right.
Do I
A. Say something to my supervisor along the lines of “I saw your message”
B. Say nothing as it was in my supervisors personal time and on a personal phone.
C. Go to the manager above her to say I’m not happy.
I just feel uncomfortable that my supervisor is being that unprofessional that she’s slagging me off to other people and hasn’t said anything direct to my face.

No one with any advice? 😩
Only 10 mins left of my lunch break while I decide what to do.

Do you think that was deliberate so you'd see it

blackwhitebrindle · 17/01/2018 14:47

No it wasn’t deliberate. As soon as she realised that a message had popped up she almost snatched the phone back. She knows I’ve seen it as she’s been sickly sweet to me all day.
Also in 4 months I’ve never had the need to read something from a supervisors private phone and I don’t think my supervisor could have timed it so I would be looking at the phone just as her message came through.
It’s so awkward.

Basically she was asking me to read a long product number from her personal phone which she had screen shot from some paperwork. At the same time a text flashed up from my supervisor slagging me off.
As soon as she saw a message had popped up she almost snatched the phone from me. Neither of us have said anything re the message and I just pretended I hadn’t seen.

I'd report it. It's not fair that you should have people bitching about you when you're trying to do your job. How horrible to read that.

Shhhhhh2018 · 17/01/2018 14:50

Keep it close to your chest and next time you need to speak with them about workload etc I'd ask for their line manager to be there & say "so I understand from the text between yourself and x you think I'm a snitch & a goody two shoes however..." drop them in it whilst they're thinking they've got away with it.

bristollady · 17/01/2018 14:50

Yikes! How awful. I’m sorry this happened to you. I have no idea what I’d do in this situation. It might cause more problems if you say something about it. Maybe it’s better to just pretend it didn’t happen and give this person a wide berth where you can? Obviously you’ll have to deal with them in a professional capacity, but maybe avoid any chit chat with them apart from this. What they have said is very unprofessional. Better to take the high road if you can, don’t you think? I know it’s hard as my blood would be boiling if I saw this too, but ultimately you have to work with them, so why make it more awkward?

blackwhitebrindle · 17/01/2018 14:51

But I’m worried that if I go to my manager that my supervisor will think I’m even more of a “goody two shoes and snitch”
I just don’t know what to do for the best.
The easiest thing would be just to never mention it again.
But I’m hurt and upset and feel awkward now at work.

Beat them with their own stick. If people are that stupid they've got it coming to them

blackwhitebrindle · 17/01/2018 14:54

And also if they think I’m a snitch then what do I do in future re mentioning my extra work load because others haven’t done their share.
Do I just pick up the slack and not say anything?
As clearly I’m a snitch for mentioning the extra work I’ve had to do while other people sit around all day having a laugh and joke.

Oh god, got to go back now. I’m going to wait for more replies before deciding what to do.
I’ve got another quick break about 6.30pm so will read them then.
Thanks for all the advice.

Too late now but I would have read it out loud to her on the basis she was asking you to read what was on her phone!

lucylouuu · 17/01/2018 14:59

yes i'd say something! that's so nasty for you to see that

Bluntness100 · 17/01/2018 15:44

Say nothing and stop doing the extra work. I assume you can defend you've done your own? Then leave them all to sort it out. Clearly she doesn't appreciate you telling her every couple of weeks and doesn't have the skill set to manage it.

So just do your own job and no more.

blackwhitebrindle · 17/01/2018 16:05

Quick loo break! Yeah I can justify that my work has been done but quite often supervisor or manager will ask why somethings not been done and when I blame the other 2 people who were meant to do it on the early shift then according to the supervisor it makes me a “snitch” 😏
Or if I go out of my way to say “this job hasn’t been done as the early shift haven’t done it” then I expect that’s when the supervisor is calling me a snitch.

OP posts:
Bluntness100 · 17/01/2018 16:14

Then stop doing it. If they ask why it's not done. Say nothing, if you in particular are asked respond with I'm not sure, I've been focusing on my workload, would you like to see. Stop going in and saying what's not been done. Just do your job.

Littlejammy · 17/01/2018 16:22

I wouldn’t go higher with it personally but I probably couldn’t let it go. Id politely ask why he/she said those things about you and be wary of them in the future. But if you’ve got to work with these people, I wouldn’t make a huge deal.
