Asking for a raise

I’m planning to up my days to 4 from 3 but because it bumps me into a new tax bracket it means my pay would go down for that extra day by around 10 percent (considering the implications of my husband having to get up early from night shoft work and extra weekends that increasing pro rata hours would entail. )

So I have asked for a raise to cover the shortfall and ,my line manager fully supports this, but I need to word it in such a way that it gives his boss an easier way to agree to it (his concern is unfairness to other colleagues at a time of pay freeze etc)

I have worked here for 16 years, good employement record etc, working mother.

The gender pay gap data comes out in April and I don’t want to be too heavy handed about that, just dab in that increasing hours comes at a cost and I can only make it work if it pays.

Don't ask for a pay rise because you need it, you need to explain why you deserve it. Because you have performed highly, taken on extra tasks or responsibilities etc.

I agree for any pay rise you need to justify why;

Have you met all your targets and on time ?

Do you perform extra tasks that no other team member does ?

Have you made any suggestions to save the company money or bring in extra revenue. Have these been implemented successfully ?

Are you a first aider/fire warden

Do you promote charity fund raising, volunteer days, environmental issues ?

Have you completed some courses that are relevant to your job ?

Have you trained any new employees ?

When is your annual pay review ?

What % of payrise are you expecting ?
Because alot of people have had a pay freeze over the last few years or a 1% pay rise
