Hi

Have worked at the same place for 4 yrs when i went off on maternity, had a year off then went back. Was still on exactly the same hourly rate that i was on before i left. Missed 2 inflationary pay rises that all the others got. Am I right in thinking that i am entitled to inflationary pay rises during maternity leave???

Spoke to my Boss (who is notoriously tight!!) in Jan and pointed out that by the time April came round again I will be due £ inflationary rises - in theory going from £ 7.40 an hour to £8, he said he would "sort me out in April" Well you guessed it, i got 20p pay rise!!

Contacted him again beginning of the month told him i wasn't happy and really needed £8, he said he'd get back to me that week, obviously have heard nothing so have to phone him again tomorrow (which i HATE HATE HATE doing, feel like i'm begging!) Any ideas if i'm in the right or not??

yes you are right, if they are inflationary rises you are entitled to them when you are on maternity leave (and since).

Sex discrimination in connection to pregnancy and childbirth without a doubt.

You need to follow their grievance procedure and put the claim in that you want your pay increased retrospectively, going back the whole time. If they don't agree, take some legal advice and take them to tribunal (you don't have to resign to do this)
