Leaving my new job

I recently started a new job after a 5-month career break following redundancy. Unfortunately I am really hating it.

The boss is downright nasty and highly strung. The job itself is very boring compared to what I used to do, but very high pressure at the same time, and I really dislike the various flawed systems they use here, as everything needs to be checked three times over. Aside from feeling really disappointed that the job wasn't a good fit for me and that I wasn't able to spot that at interview stage, I am now left wondering what to do. Do I stick it out for a year, enough to have it on my CV and not look flakey, or do I cut my losses and quit now? I am not overtly worried about finding another job. I am however wondering what to do at my next job interview - whether I should just pretend this blip never happened and just extend the period I was on break for, so I don't have to explain why I left after a couple of months.. Has anyone been in my situation before, and what did you do if so? Any advice is much appreciated!

How long exactly have you been at the new job? If it's less than a few months just quit and leave it off your CV, extending the break period. You made a mistake by taking it, so cut your losses.

Depends on whether you can afford it - if you can afford just to quit, then go for it. Otherwise, focus on your CV, and start applying - the job market tends to pick up a bit at this time of year, everyone back after Christmas, new year resolutions, free budgets and so on.

I'd leave.

Thank you all. Yes, only been employed around 5-6 weeks. Realizing you have made a wrong job choice is a bitter pill to swallow and I have been hoping things would get better but I really doubt they will. I guess I'll dust off my CV and start looking..
