Back to work after baby - What are my options, realistically?

My current job title is a Medical Secretary (Orthopaedic speciality).

There are very few jobs of that title with more part time hours.

I'm looking to work part time when I go back to work, but have decided I won't be returning to my current work place because it's a London based hospital and too far.

Could I branch out of the NHS? Could I get a simple admin role or would it be off putting that my only real experience is a medical setting?

I just want to work part time hours until DS is at school full time. I want to be with my baby as much as I can.

Happy to take a bit of a career bash and not progress in my current field for this.

Thank you for any advice Thanks

Have you considered local GP surgeries? I know mine employs secretaries/PAs in addition to the reception team. Or other community settings may have more part time options available

Violet I'd be more than happy with that type of role, however, I've been led to believe those roles are like gold dust?

Our hospital can never get enough admin staff, ward clerks, clinic co-ordinators etc. medical secretaries posts tend to be the premium roles but there are normally loads of vacancies for other roles. Most NHS organisations bring in staff on the bank, and there are often role available, previous NHS experience is a great advantage.

Or there are other roles that build on your NHS experience. For example clinical systems trainers, who need to understand the clinical world and be able to explain how to use systems to clinical staff.
