Can I bring this up with my manager? And how?

started a new job 6 months ago which involves training that is included in my working hours, which is great. When my boss offered me the job, I was told I could do the training at home, which worked well for me as I am unable to work full time.

However, once I started, my manager (not involved in the interview panel or hiring of me) has told me I am to be in work for my training. I'm not sure why. I have to get up, get ready as if it's for work, so full uniform etc which I could do without. My training is online and I don't need to be in work for it.

Can I bring it up that I would like to do the training at home, as was originally told? And how would I go about it? I have aspergers and am not good with words and I often say thngs in work where I catch my manager and colleague looking at each other so I don't know how to word this request. I've asked for a certain day training at home for next month and my manager has said he will have to speak to the boss about it, but hasn't got back to me yet. I am at a loss as to why I need to be in work for something that doesn't require me to be doing my job at that time and I am actually finding it distracting and difficult to concentrate.

Do you get paid for doing your on line training at home? Is there a certain amount of hours you have to do? I would rather go into work and do it as long as I was being paid for the time I was there. Ask your manager if you can come into work, not in your uniform if it's just a training day, to do your training and ask will you be paid for it. You also need to ask if this will be a training day or count as a work day.

I do get paid. The hours I do are part of my contracted hours and my training hours are protected so I'm not expected to do any of my job whilst I am doing my training in work. I was told I have to wear my uniform by my manager. It's awkward as it looks like I'm in work and when people ask me if I can do something or I ignore the phone, I think it looks bad and I then explain to others why.

I'm just confused as when I was offered the job, I knew I'd get these hours paid, as part of my contracted hours, but they were for training only and that I could do that from home. I'm not sure if my manager knows I was told this or if the boss has decided to let the manager take the lead and I have to do what he has decided.

What percentage of your working hours are we talking about here? I mean is it the case that 50% of your job is working and 50% training and therefore a job you thought was going to be 50% from home is now 100% in the office therefore very different?

I think you'd be fine to say to your manager something like:

'when I was offered this position & I agreed that I would do my online training from home. I would like to do this on xx date. Is that ok?

If they say no, try following it up with:
'Would you mind following it up with please? It really would be helpful to me'

Good luck.

Surely doing it at home would come under a reasonable adjustment under the Equalities Act as you have aspergers? I would say that if they make an issue of it. Do you have a union rep you could speak to who could help you?
