Cookie laws - so confused

I have recently started working as a Pilates teacher and I have now created my own website using wix.

I obviously don't want to fall foul of any laws, but don't particularly want to have cookie warning banners or policies on my website in case it scares people away. I realise if I signed up to Google analytics I would need to, but what about Google console to verify my website? Google search currently only finds my website if I put the exact address in.

You go on so many website that appear on Google search that don't have the cookie banner coming up. I'm so confused!

I’m not sure about the law but why would that scare people???

It won't scare people.

You'll need to read up on the new data protection regulation (GDPR).

Maybe it's me that scared! Having read quite a bit on the subject and still being unsure where I stand I want to make sure I don't unknowingly not do something I should. How come some websites have no privacy policy or cookie banner message and others do?

I do feel though that some people are a bit averse to knowing info is being collected about there internet usage, or is it just me?

It’s just you...

If no one's bothered then, it will probably be best to just have a cookie banner. Will that suffice or do I need to have a privacy policy page too?

Is there standard copy that I can cut and paste that covers everything I need to inform people about?

Can anyone still explain to me why some websites for similar things to mine don't worry about any of this?

Thanks for your help.

You need a privacy policy and you need to understand what you can and can't do with people's info. Look on the .gov site for start up guidance. Your local Chamber of Commerce can be a useful one to join. Also, look to see what help your local council gives to start-up businesses.

I think everyone expects a cookie banner now OP. I'd rather see one than not to be honest along with a privacy policy. People tend to just click through them I think. Their certainly not as scared by them as they used to be.
