How much notice should you give?

I’ve been in a (very) part time job for the last 3 months (7 hours per week).
I’ve never been given or signed a contract or anything similar.
I handed my notice in today and have given a written resignation letter giving one weeks notice.
My manager has come back saying I have to give one month.
I really would prefer to give one week. As I have no contract and no one has ever mentioned to me that it is a months notice, where do I stand?

You are an "at will" employee. You can quite anytime you like. I think giving two weeks notice is a good practice, but that's for a full time job.

Tell your manager you cannot accommodate his request.

Looking at this if you have no contract or terms advised then a week is all that's needed www.gov.uk/handing-in-your-notice/giving-notice

No notice needed.

You've given one week's notice.
You leave at the end of that week.
What's he going to do? Nothing.

One weeks notice is all that is required! There's absolutely nothing he can do to force you to work 4weeks!
Good luck in your new job OP Flowers
