17 week reference period for shifts - NHS

Hi,

Does anyone in the NHS have any mention, in their contract, to the '17 week reference period' where your shifts are worked out? So, basically, even though you are contracted for 37.5 hrs a week you can end up working over 60hrs as long as they average it out over 17 weeks?

I am not sure how it works with nurses but we are getting very tired doing daft shifts like this and coping with nights in between.

working time directive stuff mentions this. It doesn't mean they don't have a responsibility to ensure people are getting adequate rest days though. Shift work is knackering
