Bodyshop Consultant

I filled an online form in a while ago to be a Body Shop at Home consultant - (when I was deliberating what to do about work) and didnt give it another thought really - anyway the lady rang me today asking to meet up with me to discuss it as they have two vacancies - one for consultant and one for Area manager.

She said she wants to fast track someone to be the area manager as they are understaffed in my area especially for the christmas season coming up.

I thought I may as well not refuse meeting her if opportunity comes knocking but wondered if anyone had any insight into what I could expect from this kind of job?

I've had a few Body Shop parties and a friend of a friend was a consultant for a while. She said it was good, the only downside was the amount of Friday/Saturday evening work, I suppose these are the most popular nights for parties. She did say a benefit was the amount of makeup/products she managed to acquire for not much money and all in the name of 'work'.

Demented · 20/07/2004 14:03

I should add she was a student at the time, I don't know how well it paid but she did say it was worth driving to my house (12 miles or so from where she lived) to do a party.

Hi I worked for Virgin Vie cosmetics (yeah part of the almighty Branson empire), Bodyshop and Virgin Vie were direct competitors, I enjoyed it. Basically I got 25% commission on everything I sold. You sell it to your party goers at a certain price and then order it through bodyshop at a reduced cost, keeping the difference, some nights I would earn 40.00 GBP, others 80.00 GBP, it paid for quite a few essentials. It was upto me when I booked the partys and you really only need 1 good party to start you off, so I asked my mum and never looked back for 2 years nearly. Then I got pregnant and stopped as I was having sub-fertility treatment at the time and was washed out most nights. Its quite a laugh, you attend like a monthly meeting, always in your areas, you get to meet other sales girls, you have competitions to win things, yeah go for it.

Malinki - is it all evening work?

Are there companies that do parties for homemade cards? Or do you just make them yourself

The woman from bodyshop is coming in the morning to takl about it - I might do it to help pay for the wedding.

I did it in the USA, so I imagine it is different here, but I have to say in the USA it was only the people who could recruit others that made any money, and most of the people who made the most money where the ones who go in when the concept was new. You had to buy a "kit" for XX amount of money and then have so many parties a month(or so much in sales) to stay a consultant. I did enjoy it, and I did get quite a few products but in the end it was sales, and I am not a great sales person. I couldn't recruit and that was hard. Also they expect you to do a lot of selling within your circle of friends, something I just couldn't do. I could not go to the school gate and ask people about what they washed their face with and if they would like to try a sample!!!

I also think it is a scam that she could put you in the area manager position, you will have to sell xxx to get to that point(of being a manager or what ever they call it here!) Not to discourage you but just know what you are getting into!

TW · 25/07/2004 21:32

Beccarollover - I've already done this on another thread, but I started Phoenix Trading cards quite recently and I reckon they're a much better bet than cosmetics as you are not trying to convince people they need something - EVERYBODY sends cards! And these are so much better value than you will find in the shops. And the other thing is that no demos are necessary. People see the brochure (or the cards themselves) they like the design, they buy the card(s). People hand me orders at the school gate but you can do coffee/open mornings, toddler group sales, really anything you want to do. There is no pressure to achieve targets, but obviously the more you put into it the more you will get out. If you go here you can request a free no-obligation info pack and take it from there. Quote 5315, and you will be sent my details with it and then you can phone and have a chat if you like.

Hi, yes all of my VV parties were in the evening as I had a full time job during the day, most of the parties came from work in the end. Have you decided what you want to do yet!! Are you going with Body shop

Beccarollover · 26/07/2004 16:37

Well I am now a bodyshop consultant!

I have got my 6 parties booked in that is required to get the "kit" and starting my training today!

TW - I am interested in the cards party planning - I have sent off for the information and included your reference number - would appreciate it if you could email me on [email protected] with further information on that

Beccarollover, Are you still doing this and if so, how's it going?

Tacha · 26/05/2005 13:01

I am a party planner for a fantastic children's book company called Mini IQ - it's great. We earn 25% on what we sell, plus extras via bonuses and promotions and the best is that the kids love it!

I would suggest you check marketplace in your area as it can be saturated with BS/Avon/FM fragrances/Younique etc
