Withdrawing resignation

I handed my notice in a few days ago after a particularly bad day at work. I am currently trying to juggle 2 jobs and it just felt overwhelming. I am now kind of regretting it, although really want to reduce my hours. I know my employers don't want me to leave but I just feel so embarrassed now about asking to withdraw my resignation.
Does anyone have any experience of doing this and were your employers understanding. Did you manage to keep your job?

I did. Boss was delighted that I wanted to stay. However, the reason why I handed in my notice in the first place soon reoccurred and I ended up resigning again a few months later. Didn't regret it for a second and I now have a much better job.

Thanks Watto. Glad things worked out well for you in the end. I'm really not sure what to do. There are some aspects of the job I find so mundane and exasperating but I've never worked with such a lovely team of people before and not sure if that is clouding my judgement.

I recently withdrew my resignation about 2 weeks after I'd given it (notice period is 2 months). My employer also did not want to lose me. They were very kind and understanding about my reasons for handing in my notice and were willing to talk things through with me to see if things could be adapted to get me to stay. I still have my job and my role has been re-negotiated to something (hopefully) more manageable going forward.

Perhaps go to your manager and tell them that you don't really want to leave but if you could change something about the role/hours you might be able to stay and could withdraw your resignation. If they really want to hang on to you they'll probably be willing to look at adjustments you suggest. If not, you may find something better out there anyway!

Happened at my work, with a different outcome.
Person resigned due to increased caring duties. Manager accepted resignation. When HR heard about it they checked that all avenues had been explored re reduced hours etc. They hadn't. Person asked to withdraw resignation; manager wasn't keen, but HR wanted to explore options so a meeting was convened between person, manager and HR. The person wanted more flexibility than the manager could allow so in the end the resignation was confirmed.

There's no harm in asking, as you have nothing to lose.
