I've previously posted about my job and I've now lost it due to sickness. Went to see CAB and advised because I've less than 2 years service they can do it. I called DWP to make claim for ESA and I haven't paid enough NI in qualifying period to claim contributory based ESA as I'm in a relationship and he should support me ..... but he can't!! What a mess, what do I do?

Disability living allowance. It's non means tested.

Are you able to claim income-based? From memory, if you have under 16k in savings/investments you are eligible for the income-based version of anything that's assessed on NI contributions, so is ESA the same?

Are you living with your DP? If not, I don't see why they expect him to support you. If not, have you checked if he'd now be eligible for TC or something?

Finally, and not connected: have you applied for are in receipt of PIP? If not, start the process - iirc I helps with ensuring you're put in the right ESA group.

Sorry that you're going through this, OP

Cupoftea sorry you're having a tough time. Please ignore the spammy post and dodgy URL above. Don't get involved with that.

I recommend you look into what benefits you may be entitled to. If you have a disability, in addition to the good advice by PP, check with your GP as they can often point you in the direction of support organisations, and they can help if you go for interviews, to give evidence you have a disability because you are protected in law by the Equality Act.

Good luck!
