I have epilepsy and have done all of my adult life. I've worked in a management role for 6 months for the most dreadful company and have recently started having seizures.

I recognise this is not ideal for a small employer and so offered my 4 week notice to resign today. My manager called me back and told me he wouldn't accept my 4 weeks and wanted me to train up our new starter this week and leave next Friday.

I was trying to help as I know staying there being off sick can't be good but feel as though they're being unfair.

What should I do?

An expert will be along shortly I'm sure so I'll just bump for you. I'm pretty certain they have to pay you the 4 weeks even if they want you away earlier.

How long have you been there is it 6 months altogether or just 6 months in this role? and what is your notice period for them and you?

Personally I woulnt resign but go sick you will get basic SSP for 26 weeks. Yes it is same as JSA but then you don't have to be looking for work. You have been working, this is what the benefit system is for. Unless money is no object of course! If you resign you can't them cliam JSA and possible not housing benefit etc for an agreed time

IF your contract says 4 weeks notice they can get you to leave earlier by paying you the 4 weeks and you just don't come to work. They can't just change notice to suit them
Not paying you.

Thanks everyone
My notice Is 4 week, I've only worked for the company for 6 months in total. Should I just go on SSP for a while? I'm looking for a work from home or self employed position so I can be flexible

If you have already handed it in, then its in.

Its just how long you would get paid notice. So at my work, notice for both sides is 1 week. Which they would have to pay you for. It you went long term sick after handing notice in. You would get sick pay from us until your leave date.

We wouldnt let you retract your notice.

If you worked for us and had been there long enough to have 4 weeks notice and we wanted you to leave earlier, We would still pay the 4 weeks. Again we would pay sick until the 4 weeks were up.

Its really going to be down to wether your contract says they will give you 4 weeks notice.

I have verbally handed my notice in but not followed up?
