Omitting jobs off application form

I'm a HCP and have worked for my present employer for over eight years. I now wish to leave so have been applying for jobs.

I have an interview shortly and will fill in an application form once I'm there.

Some of the jobs I've had in the past have been very short term and I ended up leaving because they were so awful (care homes).

I also can't remember detailed dates, so generally just guess a few dates.

Do employers have a way of checking on a person's full employment history? I've never been in any kind of trouble or anything.

If you are omitting jobs you will be creating a gap in employment. I would rather see short term jobs on a cv than nothing. It's easily covered with a question. A few years ago I was asked about having lots of jobs on my cv from 1997 & 1998, the positions had been sa as o all and I took them on for experience, interviewer was happy with that. You could say something similar, that you were trying to get as much experience under your belt as you could.

I've just augmented the dates to fit. I don't have an accurate record of my start and leave dates and I also worked two places at once at times. My past life was a bit disrupted and chaotic at times and I'm a very poor record keeper.

They are unlikely to check beyond your last two employers for the purposes of reference checking. Also with a DBS being a requirement of your role, they will most likely be satisfied with that. 8 years with your current employer will count for a lot.

I have done this with my cv OP, it is very easy for me though because there are no gaps as most of the time I've been employed in our business too.
Mine was a similar reason, too many short term contracts from the same type of employment so instead of listing them all I just lump them all under the same.

Just put Jan 2008- Feb 2012 - Various short term HCA Positions within a number of care homes. Or put the years if you can't remember the exact dates.

Thank you for the replies. I feel a bit better I think.

The NHS only takes 3 years of employment history references. They don't have access to your HMRC records. Seeing that you are a HCP I am presuming you are looking at healthcare jobs.

I've omitted short term jobs and nothing has ever happened to me!

The Civil Service is a bit different as they do check your past 3/5 years employment with HMRC (depending on clearance level) but being a government department they are able to do this.

As far as I know, nobody else does this. The exception being for airline/airport jobs - for security they want any employment/education gaps over 28 days in the past 5 years covered.

But for your average job, they really won't be looking in that much detail.
