Morning im a first time mum returning back to a very good job, in June i worked full time before mat leave as a national key account manager, it is a position i worked long and hard for,for a company that i love,BUT reps are only full time because of the amount of work involved. What rights do i have to ask if i can work monday-thursday and i want them to reduce my income but not my bonus. As they were going to do this for another girl last year but only wanted to pay her 60% bonus. But i dont want that. How am i best going about this and what rights do i actually have?
thanks in advance

ask for their policies and read them. Could you go for compressed hours, i.e. still work ft but compressed into 4 days? I do this and so am still considered ft in terms of bonus/holiday entitlement etc, so I get the best of all worlds.

The legislation gives you the right to ask for flexible working but has no teeth - the employer can turn it down but they do have to cite good business reasons. more on the dti site here

You can apply in writing asking for anything but they don't have to say yes. Do a business case for how it will work if you did 4 days. Cover how it will affect the business, other people like colleagues or support staff. Also suggest ways of how the work could be distributed when you are not there etc. You need to sell it to them. Check out DTI or ACAS to see the 8 different reasons under which they can say no and work your application around that.

I can't see how you think you can demand that your bonus isn't reduced proportionately? Why wouldn't they base it on the sales or work you complete? That does't sound reasonable to me but pay doesn't come under flexible working, only hours, so you would have to try and negotiate that separately.

Good luck

thanks choc ill look into it the bonus thing is because its a set target so if i do the target due to incremental business i have created i dont see the problem.
