Working from home ideas

Ive been searching the site, but having difficulty finding what I need!

What work at home jobs do you do, or know someone who does it, that is really worth your while?

I cant drive yet (just applied for provisional license, so could be a while) and like idea of pampered chef and mini iq, but would need to drive to be able to do them

Any ideas?

I have recently started with Usborne Books, so, to early to say if it will be worth my while...but I know it could be a good business, and a low lay out to start wiht...at the moment the starter pack is £38 and you get £170 worth books, etc...!
The low lay out was for me, why I decided to give it a try.
With Usborne you can keep it as local as you need to be.
no idea about the pampered chef or mini iq, sorry!
Some people have a good success with E-bay businesses...might be an option.

Have you thought about becoming an avon representative?

Check out my website www.avonwithjan.co.uk or email me at jan.avon @ yahoo.co.uk (no spaces) for more details

if you can't drive get a taxi. I'm going to sign up as a pampered chef consultant in next couple of weeks (having a party first so I can get the starter kit cheaper) and not only do I not drive but I can't see either and I think I'm going to make that a selling point "this product is so simple to use you could do it with your eyes closed".... .

as consultant you earn 20% of all sales so it's more than likely your commission will allow for taxi fairs as well until you can get a licence.

3easterbunniesandnomore · 04/04/2007 19:03

no...I meannt general E-bay business....anything or everything...lol!
However, you can get a Usborne Website, where you seel directly....but not sure if those are truely worth it, tbh....
YOu could do leaflat drops, though, etc...just as you would in avon!
Or do usborne Parties near your home, or do lil displays of your books at nursery, also leaving the catalogue there and orderforms, and people could order.....

3easterbunniesandnomore · 04/04/2007 19:04

however, I wouldf think you could sell usnorne books on E-bay, I suppose...just not sure if it would be worth it....hm......

childminder?

sibble · 04/04/2007 19:12

I am a Usana distributor (top of the range nutritional supplements and botanical skin care). Great if you have no transport. You can do alot by phone, you have your own website for people to look at, webcasts and phone conferences are available to let people you know about the business and products. Work your own hours around the children and set your own income goals. I started talking to people I knew first, so no evenings and parties etc (that's what attracted me, my boys get up at 5.30 am I don't do evenings!!). The income return is as much or as little as you want it to be. Email me if you want to know more karen h carter @ hotmail . com

Good luck, there's alot out there.

3easterbunniesandnomore · 04/04/2007 19:22

oh, if you are artistic or so, you oculd always make and sell whatever it is you are making!
If I could find a supplier for just lil Dolls Buggy frames...then I would get dh to get a Dolls buggy business...as he made a cover for one of my boys cover (cool camouflage) and loads of people stop us asking where we got it, and how cool, as so nice and boyish...even the dads feel it's a cool idea, lol!

Lmccrean · 04/04/2007 19:31

thats great ladies, getting dd ready for bed and will read your replies when she settled ( we are just back from 5 days visting her dad in england so shes a bit upset he isnt here to put her to bed.. )

if you do go down the direct selling for another company (usborne, pampered chef etc...) do also take a look at mamatoto.co.uk

it is a full range of products from pregnancy to preschool so potential to make a lot of revenue as orders can be high value - and you get 20%. The range is all bestsellers/best products in category so really very easy to sell. You can run parties or just direct people to the website.

WinnieThePooh · 04/04/2007 20:05

I don't wear a lot of make up either, but find that I do pretty well with the sales.

I am also a Sales leader, which means I sign up new reps. I don't drive, but as long as they are easily accessible by public transport I will go to them, or they sometimes come to me for the apointment.

bettythebuilder · 04/04/2007 20:29

A good place to start looking is mum and working.co.uk which has details of lots of work from home options.
Netmums also has a couple of sections on their boards -"work from home -'advertising and reps' and 'general discussion' which also has loads of info - both good starting points.

3easterbunnies- why not put a request on a supplier request website like alibaba to see if you can find a buggy frame supplier- that sounds like a great business idea! Or try a website like thewholesaler?

Lmccrean · 04/04/2007 20:37

would you be allowed to do two at same time, for example mamatoto and mini iq? I am a little bit crafty, would I be able to promote my own things too (obv making it clear its my own and not mamatoto or whatever!)

ssd-I want to be a childminder, but my place is not big enough (been told Im allowed 2, and thas inc my dd) so wouldnt be worth my while.

yes mamatoto don't mind if you combine them, many do mamatoto & phoenix cards.

with mamatoto you also get Child's Play books.

some of the others don't let you combine e.g. usborne.

3easterbunniesandnomore · 05/04/2007 09:18

They can't really stop you combining though, can they?
I mean, as long as you make sure you tell the tax office and that part is legal, they can't really tell ya what to do and what not?
Must say, I should probably read my usborne stuff through, but can't say I saw of any mentioning that that would be in breech of "contract"

sibble · 05/04/2007 20:44

With Usana we are allowed to work other networking businesses as long as there is no obvious conflict of interest. The main reason for choosing not to is once you reach a certain commission level you become eligible for share bonuses which you forfeit if you also have other networking businesses. Not sure if that's the same with other companies.

wohmum · 07/04/2007 22:00

I think usbourne DO specify that you can't work with another direct sales company - their concerns are probably about using their training to benefit another company, but in practice, how would they find out?

I work with Mini-Iq and we don't have restrictions. I think it is tough to do if you don't drive - books aren't light and parties are def the best way to make sales.

We do however sell maths-whizz via on-line subscription, so if you can get into the right circles with something like this , they can view demo's on line, and as long as they quote your reference you can earn a commission (even beter if they buy an annual sub). In the right circles (parents looking for extra tuition and prepared to pay for it - although not as much as a private tutor) it goes down brilliantly.

Back to driving - you could, of course, use taxis but these will eat into your earning so you would need to make sure you are earning the max bonusses each month to make it worthwhile.

You should think about how much you want to earn and then talk to whoever you are talking to about the companies about how this can be achieved. If you need to team build to earn what you are looking for then I think it's hard to do this for more than 1 company.
If you are just planning to earn from sales, you'll probably find that most companies pay you bonusses for selling over certain amounts each month., so for instance if you were to do 4 mini-iq parties and 4 pampered chef parties you may earn the basic commission on each (say 25%) but if you did say 8 mini-iq parties and so got to the max bonus (15%) you would get this on top of all the parties/sales you did so earning a greater percentage on each one.

Doing 2 seems to work ok for people doing low level of sales or having a main one, but the second as an extra - so do your Pampered chef or Mamatoto (I think this would work well with Mini-QIQ) as your main busness , but as you come across people who want educational stuff you can whip out your mini-iq catalogue samples and catalogue!

Hope this helps a bit and I'm happy to fill in anymore if you want!

I work from home, part of the time I am running payrolls for DH's accounting business and the rest of the time I am promoting/managing our holiday apartment here.
