Getting time off for an interview

So I've been offered an interview for another role within my organisation but I don't know what excuse to give when I request the time off. I don't want my boss to know I'm going for other jobs but at the same time I don't want to lie about the reason I want time off because they'll obviously put two and two together if I get it. Do you think its acceptable to just say I have an appointment without being specific? There's always the tendency to overshare/make up an elaborate story though to justify needing the time off. What have other people done?

If it's internal
I would assume it was general knowledge. I don't think you can hide it

Line managers need to be informed if you're applying for an internal role anywhere I've worked.

Internal roles I would always advise boss I was applying - surely that's only polite?

Thank you all... you are quite right, I have advised my boss this morning and she was fine and understanding. Don't know why I was so worried about it. Feels much better knowing that I'm not telling porkies aswell.
