39 - Nursing?

I'm an RN and a GP in my original country.

Migrated to Australia in 2014, and found myself jobless. I can't be a GP here because I can't go to a remote area (requirement). I can't be a nurse because I'm required to restudy it again.

Inquired in several schools - I was told my Nursing course was too far in the past so they can't credit anything.

I took a Masters in Information Systems - almost finished. Did really well. But didn't land any graduate programs - always made it to the final interview, and the interviewers were almost always incredulous as to why an MD is applying for a graduate program.

Now I found out that a petition that was filed for me for the US ten years ago has matured and I can actually go. But I need to work as a nurse there.

I applied to a coursework Master of Nursing program than will let me practice when I am done in two years. I will be almost 42 by then. But if I go, I can probably take the US Medical exams and apply for a Family Medicine residency. I will be old, but it probably doesn't matter so much.

What should I do? I also got accepted in a Master of Data Science program with subsidy (it's a very competitive course, and getting a subsidy was a big deal since the subsidy was 2/3 of course fees).

Re: children, I don't have any but I don't know, I don't think I really want them. My husband seems same as me.

Where do you want to live? Does your DH have ability to work in either country? Do you need to consider earning potential ?

But pick what you enjoy the most (if you can).

Where do you want to live?

I would like to experience living in the US for a few years.

Does your DH have ability to work in either country?

Yes

Do you need to consider earning potential?

Yes, but probably not so much, as my DH's profession is transferrable.

Nursing pays really well in California- In La friends make 75k to 85K. Up in N Cali it is more like $125 K. I would get yourself over to the US. Loads of jobs for nurses- doctors start closer to 200-300K a year.

My friend trained as a nurse -finishing training around 43 and she is loving it but has moved away to a cheaper state so her husband can retire early and they just live on her wage. 3 shifts a week is normal- 12 hours each shift so you also get 4 days off!!
