Glass door reviews

Looking for new job. A recruiting agent called and job on paper looks good. Glass door reviews however give it 2.2. How much do you take notice? My current company has 3.3 but I'm bored

I read Glassdoor reviews with a somewhat sceptical eye, rather than taking the ratings too literally.

Ratings and narrative are un-vetted personal opinions and experiences of individual employees. Bear in mind posters carry their own employment 'baggage' either good or bad.

It's like any survey or market research, its all about context. Positive comments could have been made after a promotion, negatives could be from someone with an unpleasant manager or had recently left their employer 'under a cloud' and want to have a vent.

When I read some of the negative comments about management, it could apply to every company in business!

I read my companies (or rather the company i am employed by) reviews on glass door.

While its not a perfect company, there were several reviews that were ridiculous. One in particular was someone who i was involved with the dismissal of. It was obvious it was them and was total lies.

We didnt even bother trying to have it taken down as i discovered, not many companies take it seriously. It essentially lets people vent their perception of an event.

Very few people think 'oh i like my employer, i think i will go review them online'. But that changes if you think they have been unfair. Even if they havent.

It also doesnt impact people applying. We recently advertised a senior leadership role and had over 600 applicants.

There are a quite a steady stream of very poor reviews about where I work on glass door from current employees. I do wonder what people are trying to achieve by ranting about somewhere that they've chosen to stay working at. And yes some of them are ridiculous.

Do companies get the choice of having posts they don't agree with taken down ?

My understanding is that the reviews belong to the individuals and GD have a disclaimer (and indeed promote) that they won't get involved in haggling with companies about the accuracy of reviews. Therein lies the rub - it's anyone's guess whether they are worth taking seriously!

Tbh i dont know. My point was that we didnt even try because its not something anyone is bothered by.

We could have made an effort as it a fabrication (the person had started a fught in the office and then threatened the other person that he would have him jumped) and we had proof. So i imagine there would be case as it could, in theory, bring the company into disrepute. The companies are obviously named.

But it seems that no one worries about the website at all. Its not really well respected.

It wouod be interesting to see someone bringing a case.
