Have you been redundant when pregnant or after return to work?

We are looking for women who have been made redundant unfairly either when pregnant or after returning to work following maternity leave. There is currently some legal protection for women to prevent unfair redundancies for women on maternity leave but it doesn't protect immediately upon notification of a pregnancy through to the start of mat leave or once a woman has returned to work. We are campaigning for this protection to be extended to cover women from notification of pregnancy right through until six months after return to work - in line with e.g Germany. If you were made redundant on, or soon after, returning to work, please get in touch - we'd really like to talk to you. You can PM on here or email [email protected]

Thanks so much

I was made redundant whilst on maternity leave and I suspect if I had wanted to pursue it I would have had a really good claim. (I am a solicitor!!) However, the reality was I had a long commute to that job and was really only "holding" open as a possibility in case something happened with my husband's job in that period too. My ex-employer clearly knew that I'd have a good claim and I ended up with a far better than expected redundancy package which allowed me to have 2 years off with my child which I would not have been able to afford should I not have received this. I then got a job very quickly after I started looking to go back but locally. If this would be useful for your survey let me know by DM.

I was not made redundant but forced out.
Changes made that meant i could no longer do the role. Horrible experience which hugely impacted on mental health.
In the end i resigned which i suspect was their plan.

I was made redundant on maternity leave but I accepted a settlement agreement which included a clause that I couldn't talk about it publicly - I'm happy to discuss anonymously though

Hi MaternityAction. I am planning to give you a call on Monday! This past week I was called in to a meeting to say that my role was now at risk of redundancy. I am 32 weeks pregnant and expecting to go on maternity leave at the end of October. They have given me the impression that my pregnancy is effectively irrelevant to the process. However, having done a bit of reading around the topic, I think there are a number of areas where I think they have decided not to follow best-practice, including the area of my pregnancy. Keen to establish if I do have any grounds to object and perhaps received an enhanced payoff since it's clear they don't want me and I guess I don't want to go back to them either!
