Term time only job needing some extra work during school holidays

I've worked in school for seven years and when my children were younger, it was perfect. As a single parent, I currently get tax credits but that will end in the next couple of years when my children leave full-time education.

Has anyone found a satisfactory 2nd income to supplement their income during the school holidays? I love my job and it would be awful to have to give it up but the simple fact is, I need to be earning more and I should start planning now.

Is there a way around this, or do I need to start looking for a 'proper' full-time job?

Have you considered working in a holiday club?
You don't need to be qualified

Yes, this seems to be the general consensus and definitely something I will consider as an option. It's a very good idea for the long summer holiday.

What is your current post?

I employ a school dinner lady as a mothers help to look after my four children (and dog!) in the school holidays - I only work two short days and don't need childcare in the term time, so it's really hard to find someone who would want to work those hours.....it suits her brilliantly as she gets extra money, and it suits me brilliantly because I don't feel guilty about only offering two short days of work in the holidays only....is that any use?!

Set up a holidays only childminding business?

What about running an art based holiday care/camp?

Depending on your housing situation (size of house, location), you could earn some money hosting foreign students at language schools. I think that's reasonable money.

You could also work in holiday clubs, with a DBS and art skills you shouldn't find it hard to get a job.

hawleybits · 31/08/2017 21:50

I have a DBS, although I'd need an updated one for each new setting. Is that correct?
Our school run various holiday clubs and I fully intend looking into the possibilities.

I think that if you are part of the DBS update service (£13/year) then you don't need a new check every time as you are continuously part of it and new employers etc can just search you. I think.

insancerre · 01/09/2017 14:53

If you have subscribe to the update service then no, you won't need a new dbs
You just give your number and your new employer checks
