Basically, two job offers, both the same.

At the moment I can't choose but if company X offered me a bit more money I'd go with them.

How do I ask for it without sounding like a cheeky fucker?

Phone them up and say you're really happy to have the offer and keen to work for their company but you were hoping for £x more. See what happens!

The current job may be the same but what about progression over the years? Does one employer have better prospects than the other?

I think that you can tell employer X that you have two identical offers and are having trouble choosing between them. Let them join the dots. Is it only money that would entice you? - they may not be able to do that because it might upset grading bands and differentials. Would something else do eg extra holiday. Let them do the running - they might offer more than you were going to ask for!

btw. Men usually have no moral qualms about being seen as a CF, that's why they get paid more.

Your comment about men is exactly right. I've grown some balls and asked.

The two jobs are both really good options. I'd be happy at both of them although no matter what I choose I'll always wonder. So I might as well let my bank account decide.
