Offered a job but something weird is going on

Hi all. So I went for a job interview specifically as a housekeeper only in a residential home, but when they called me, she was saying that because I have experience in the care industry, she is going to ask relevant questions regarding that as well. I went and she was adamant about me working as a care worker instead and then asked why I didn't want to do it (to be honest, I just don't but I made up another reason!) Then she proceeded to say she is going to interview me for the care position role later down the line even though I told her once again I did not want to do caring. They called and said I have been accepted for the housekeeping role but I am actually worried the management is going to put me on care shifts! As she also said her idea was to put me as bank to work as caring and housekeeping (but the job title they put on their website is for HOUSKEEEPING, which I applied for!!) now I am a bit sceptical about it... does this sound dodgy? Putting me off!

It doesn't sound dodgy but it does sound very annoying. At my work, the carers sometimes pick up cleaning shifts for a change, as it's less pressured and shorter shifts. I suspect you may need to be firm that you are only looking for cleaning shifts at the moment.

It sounds like they think you'll be good for both and will be asking you to do care shifts too. Check your contact and don't be scared to say no to the care work.

Could you ask them to supply a written job description (over email) before you accept/decline the offer? That might clarify their expectations as to your employment and duties.

I agree, they've hit lucky on getting an applicant who is qualified and experienced in both and want to somehow get you to agree to this. I would insist on a housekeeper specific contract that you can then refer back to when the try and get you to just 'help out' on the care side.

Make sure your contract states Housekeeper and that the role description does not incluse any caring duties.

Anything you feel uncomfortable about, bring up before you accept the role formally.

Thank you everyone for your replies. I have decided not to take up the job so I've kindly let them know (I didn't say why, I just said due to personal reasons).
